SPOTLIGHT ON

Sundowner style

08 August 2018

Daytime holiday dressing is a cinch: throw on your favourite swimsuit, a chic cover-up, quality SPF, sunnies and sandals and you’re good to go. Finding a suitable evening ensemble however, can be an altogether different story. The solution? When suitcase space is limited, pack multi-tasking pieces that will take you from a day of sightseeing to cocktails at sunset with ease. Here's our round-up of the best looks to get you started.

Simplicity rules

There is often pressure to maximise your holiday look with bold colours, statement prints and dramatic silhouettes – pieces that you might usually shy away from in your day-to-day life. But if you’re a minimalist, stick with it – the art of style is feeling comfortable in your own skin and the clothes on your back, not mastering a trend that feels alien to your personality. If this sounds like you, a classic white dress or sleek black jumpsuit feels effortless yet sophisticated. For those that want to push the boundaries slightly, try this ruffled orange dress (above left) for a subtle statement with a touch of sass.

Not so mellow yellow

After Amal Clooney wore yellow to the Royal Wedding, the sunshine shade has become the most sought-after, and perhaps controversial hue of 2018. Yes, it’s bright and can stir fear in even the most fashion-savvy woman, but once you’ve found the perfect tone for your complexion, it’s all smiles from there. Our favourite look of the moment? This off-the-shoulder midi, paired with a wide-brimmed floppy hat, chic wedges and a statement clutch to finish.

Flower power

Florals are practically a neutral in summer. This season, wear yours as a cute playsuit like this pretty pink number (top left). The wrap-style silhouette will flatter your waist and the long sleeves are ideal for evenings when the temperature drops. Equally, you can’t go wrong with a classic sundress, brimming with botanical blooms. Wear both with a woven bag, smart sandals and beachy, tousled hair.
