THE INTERVIEW

Ruby Mae

4 July 2018

Meet Ruby Mae – model and girlfriend to one of England’s most talented football players, Dele Alli. Wearing Lipsy's summer collection, we caught up with the 24-year-old bombshell to talk all things fashion and football.

What was your childhood like?

I grew up in Stoneygate in Leicester and had a really good childhood. I was into gymnastics and horse riding – they were the two hobbies that I stuck at. I ask my mum for a horse every birthday, but I’m still waiting!

How did you get into modelling?

I got spotted at the age of 15 and have been doing it ever since.  It wasn’t something I’d always strived to be as I originally thought I might become a vet or a make-up artist, but my mum is a model and I've always been tall and skinny so it just happened quite naturally.

How did you meet your boyfriend, Dele?

We met in London at a restaurant. He came over to my table and asked me out. We’ve been together about two and a half years now and are really happy.

Describe your sense of style.

It's quite edgy. like to have a lot going on with my outfits, so rather than just wear a dress and heels I always try and mix it up with layering pieces and accessories, too. My look of the moment is cycling shorts paired with a jacket off the shoulders.

Do you have a style icon?

Kim Kardashian – she has the best style. Whatever she wears, everyone wants it.

What’s your beauty routine?

I always look after my skin but I find that cleansing can make it worse so I usually just take my make-up off with a face wipe and then invest in good moisturisers.

What's your secret to staying in such great shape?

I’ve always been really lucky that I’ve never had to worry about what I’m eating. I've tried to put on weight but I can't. I don’t enjoy the gym but I still horse ride when I can so I guess that’s my form of exercise!

Are you a football fan?

I am – now that I understand it! I try and go to as many games as I can to support Dele – I’d say that I support him rather than a team.

What are your thoughts on the term WAG?

I don’t like it and feel like it has become a derogatory term. Wives and girlfriends of footballers should be considered in their own right.

Tell us the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given.

Have fun and be yourself.
