STYLE SOS

How to plan your wedding

25 January 2018

From choosing the perfect venue to finding your dream dress (and everything else in-between), follow our 12-month guide to help you plan your big day in style.

DATE, VENUE, BUDGET

Decide on the big things first. Do your research, flick through bridal magazines and start visiting locations that are within your budget and guest capacity. Once you’ve found your favourite, place your deposit as soon as you can, send out your save the dates and then celebrate this first milestone with a glass of champers.

ALL THE PRETTY THINGS

And so the fun begins. Set up a Pinterest board where you can create a visual moodboard of references that you love. Focus on flowers, invitations, photography and of course, your dress. For the latter, stay open minded – most brides find that their dream look is never quite what they expected.

GET BOOKING

Now is prime time to confirm the florist, caterer, entertainment, photographer – and the most exciting part, the honeymoon. Make sure both of your passports are in date at this point, too.

THE FINER DETAILS

The general look and feel has been outlined so now you can start to hone in on the special touches that will make your day feel truly personal and unique. This means bridesmaid-dress shopping (and delegating hen party duties), designing invitations and choosing wedding rings and favours. Also, schedule in a hair and make-up trial – you'd be surprised how quickly these get booked up, especially if you want a professional to do it for you on the day.

THE REALLY FUN PART

Send out your invitations and then reward yourself by booking that all-important tasting session with your caterer to choose the menu. Finalise flower arrangements and the wedding cake as well. This part should feel like a mini break from planning so make sure you enjoy every minute – this goes for your hen party, too.

THE HOME RUN

Breathe a sigh of relief: the majority of the work is done. From an admin point of view, it's now just finalising numbers, last payments and confirming the seating plan and order of service. As for your dress, this is the perfect time to try it on with all accessories, wedding shoes and lingerie to make sure you're happy with the full look. And if you haven't already, pick your first dance song.

One week to go

BEAUTY PREP

This week should be stress-free so make time for some pampering. Treat yourself to a pre-wedding massage and book in for nails, waxing and any other last beauty treatments. Finally and most importantly, enjoy what is set to be the best day of your life.
