How to dress better this season

6 February 2019

If you’ve taken the time to click into this article, it’s likely that you either already have a vested interest in the world of fashion or are interested in becoming a bit more well versed in the subject. Whatever your reason, you’ve come to the right place. Making an effort with what you wear is guaranteed to not only give you a serious surge of confidence the moment you step out of the door, but it also has the ability to completely change the rest of the world’s perception of you. Here’s how:

Small switches, big impact

Pledging to dress better isn’t a vanity project, it’s just about taking the time to do something for yourself. Making small changes for maximum impact will make almost the biggest difference to your wardrobe. If you’ve been wearing the same few T-shirts for the last few years, there’s no time like the present to start afresh; if you’ve just bagged yourself a new job or know that this is the year you’re going to attempt to do just that, you’re going to want a new two-piece; and if you’ve been stomping around in the same old shoes for the past decade, it’s time for an upgrade.

Go back to basics

Wearing decent clothes doesn’t need to be complicated or time-consuming. Instead, it’s about having the confidence to strip back your wardrobe and start (and end) with the basics. These are the backbone of any outfit, so getting them right is imperative. No matter what you do for a living or how active your social life may be, keeping a full supply of fresh neutral T-shirts and shirts, a couple of pairs of dark-hued chinos or jeans, a thick, chunky piece of knitwear, a few decent sweatshirts, a handful of wear-with-anything shoes and a high-quality piece of outerwear – and you’re good to go. Everything else is the cherry on top – there’s still room for your suit, your accessories and your more trend-led pieces – but it’s easier and less daunting to start simple.

Take note from those who do it well

Whenever we step outside in any city (provided we manage to peel our eyes away from the screen in our hands), we’re immediately armed with copious amounts of ammunition when it comes to figuring out the right thing to wear. Style inspiration can be everywhere, and not just in the pages of a glossy magazine – the man standing opposite you on the tube; in front of you in the queue at your favourite sandwich shop; walking past you as you speed into work. These men are providing instant fashion advice that you can – and should – take on board.
