SPOTLIGHT ON

Global fusion

6 February 2019

Inspired by print and pattern from around the world, the Global trend is set to sweep through our homes this year, serving up some seriously stylish relaxed-living vibes. To be on-trend, read our editor's tips. Take a

maximalist approach – the more prints, earthen-tones and touches of gold or ochre, the better.

With so many new Global homeware products available, this is a relatively easy look to recreate at home. The choices are endless.

Start by considering the ‘bones’ of the room you are decorating – do you need to paint and wallpaper it? Do you want to replace any larger furniture items? Do you want to go wild with colour or keep it fairly subdued? Once you have answered some of these questions you can then start to form your own take on Global style.

Paint the walls with warm, chalky hues

Starting from scratch and painting the walls? We strongly suggest a base colour of Vintage Calico. Its soft cream tone is the perfect first layer to set your Global look against. Warm and inviting, textured prints and varying patterns come alive with this neutral hue as a backdrop. Or, maybe you want to be stronger with colour? In this case try Baked Clay, or Dusk Rose. Both of these options have a richness associated with warmer climates.

Change up a sideboard or table with natural-look furniture

You can create real impact by changing one or two larger furniture items in the room. This never fails to refresh a space and give it an instantly different look.

For Global, try choosing from a selection of natural wood-effect furniture, such as the Amsterdam range. The sideboard, TV stand, nest of tables and wall shelf are great for bringing natural warmth to your room, and their wooden rustic appeal that exudes Global charm. Decorating a dining room in a Global theme? Try the Amsterdam dining table.

Choose a textured rug

Rugs play a vital part in making a room feel complete and comfortable, and they are also key to the Global trend. Capture the essence of Global by layering a selection of warm - or neutral-toned rugs. Try mixing and matching the Poppy Field Rug with the Kudu Seagrass Rug (both French Connection, available at Next) or opt for one big hatch-style rug, like this Mono Berber.
