Easter holiday fun

29 March 2018

The clocks have gone forward and the evenings are getting longer. That extra daylight makes a world of difference.

It also means – weather permitting – that it’s time to get out and about with the children. Illustrations by Emma Block

Have fun on the farm

With lambing season in full swing, Easter is an action-packed time to visit your local farm, whether

that’s a small city farm or large country grange. Be sure to take wellies and let kids make the most of squelching in

the mud. The National Trust owns a range of properties around the country where you’ll be able to see lambs this spring.

Easter egg hunts

There are few kids who don’t squeal with delight at Easter egg hunts. Whether you have one planned locally or not,

it's worth seeing what your nearest stately home has scheduled as they seem to up the fun factor around Easter every year.

Hampton Court, now famous for its Easter egg hunt, has a range of events including a Lindt chocolate bunny hunt.

Kids can also enjoy the Magic Garden and its legendary maze, which takes on average 20 minutes to reach the middle.

Indoor fun

One thing you can count on in April is rain. It needn’t be a killjoy. This country is packed with indoor activities to keep the

kids smiling and if in doubt, there's always your local soft-play. But why not get them completely wet and dive into your nearest

pool? Over the Easter holidays pools throughout the country will host swimming lessons for all abilities. Swim England’s

website has details of your nearest leisure centre with lessons for children.

Climbing high

Fed up with the kids scaling the furniture? Get them to your nearest climbing centre where they can learn skills that will

help strengthen muscle and boost confidence. Here are three indoor climbing centres that come highly rated by customers:

Leicester Outdoor Pursuits CentreThe Climbing Station in Loughborough and Geckos Climbing for Kids at The Castle

Climbing Centre in London.

Get crafty

Painting eggs, making an Easter bonnet or crafting a papier-mâché rabbit is always (messy) fun for

youngsters. Pinterest is an obvious starting point when seeking inspiration at home. Alternatively, head out

to one of the country’s many museums, art galleries or stately homes, such as Blenheim Palace or

Chatsworth House who'll be hosting a range of kid-friendly activities.

Sweet treat making

Throughout April and beyond, luxury British chocolatier Hotel Chocolat will be providing workshops where

kids can learn how chocolate is made and then decorate their own slab to take away. The Chocolate Museum

offer drop-in sessions where children can create delicious chocolate creations with friends (it's also a great

place to have a party). Biscuiteers, purveyors of exquisite biscuits, also has a range of icing workshops

for kids over the Easter holidays.
