SPOTLIGHT ON
How to plan their

Christmas Day outfits
12 December 2018

From dazzling decorations to the perfect stocking fillers, there’s so much to think about in the run-up to 25 December. One of the more fun activities is planning the kids’ Christmas Day outfits, says kidswear editor Maggie Davis

This year, I’m giving all three of my children (girls, aged nine and seven, and a boy aged two) these super-festive onesie on Christmas Eve so Christmas morning will be a sea of jolly red. I’ve also bought them all Boden Christmas jumpers to wear on Christmas Day. I love the fact they are Christmassy without being too garish and I’m hoping will last them till next year, too (as I’ve bought a size up). For the girls I’ve added in some sparkly tights to their Christmas stockings to wear with a smart dress like this one that they already have hanging in their wardrobe. For the boy, I’ve gone for smart jeans and these cute boots that will see him through till spring (and hopefully beyond). You could also add in a little blazer if you have a formal event planned.

Christmas Day dressing is of course a totally personal affair – some children prefer to stay in their onesies for most of the day while others, like mine, may be getting dressed up for church on Christmas morning, then dressing down later. After church, we usually get home, have Christmas lunch and then get into more relaxed clothing in the afternoon – perfect for snuggling on the sofa or family board games by the fire. The key with festive dress code is to decide what suits your family and what works with what your kids may already have in their wardrobes. Keep it simple and don’t spend too much. A couple of festive accessories may be all you need to amp up clothes they already own. A nice tradition I’ve recently instilled is to hang their Christmas Day outfits up on Christmas Eve, just before Santa arrives to fill their stockings.
