When it comes to different collars, it can often be difficult to know where to start. So follow our guide for everything you need to know about the 6 different types of shirt collar we offer, and how and why you should be wearing them.

1. The Button Down

If you only own one type of shirt in your lifetime, make it the button down. This is by far the most common of all shirt collar styles, and can be worn everyday in both casual and smarter situations. Originally designed for polo players to stop their collars moving in the wind, the button down has been in circulation for centuries and isn’t going anywhere.

2. The Mini Collar

This is probably our most modern collar, and works perfectly with or without a tie. When choosing the latter, button it all the way to the top leaving one button undone for a clean and sophisticated look. If you do choose a tie, stick to skinny to keep the whole thing in proportion. Wear with a slick suit to complete the look.

3. The Curved Forward Point

The Forward Point is one of the most common collar shapes there is, and this modern take on a classic will, in our opinion, work best with tie and a perfectly tailored suit. This is the longest in length of all of our collars, so is flattering for all face shapes – particularly wider ones.

4. The Shallow Cut

Any widespread collar is a simple and easy update on longer ones such as the Forward Point. A simple cross between the cutaway and the mini collar, the Shallow Cut looks as amazing dressed up with a slim fit tie and suit as it does with no tie and a sharp blazer. If you’ve got a naturally slim face, this is the perfect choice for you.

5. The Collar Pin

Adding an understated accessory such as a Collar Pin shirt is a surefire way to elevate your style status. The pin is designed with the specific function of bringing the collars together, as well as holding the tie knot in place, keeping the whole look succinct and sophisticated. This collar works best under a sharp suit, with a thick tie knot.

6. The Cutaway

This is the perfect collar to wear if you’re going for a double breasted suit or something with wider lapels. Most cutaway collars are designed for the full Windsor knot (the one you’ll see on ties most often), and so naturally looks best when worn with one. It’s the widest collar we do, and although it works for everyone, it’s perhaps most flattering on slimmer faces.
