THE INTERVIEW

Binky Felstead

1 March 2018

The former Made in Chelsea star – who gave birth to baby India last year –

on being a mum, her first Mother’s Day and her exciting new venture.

How do you plan to celebrate your first Mother’s Day?

I hope that I will be getting spoilt. At the moment I don’t have any plans,

but I am secretly hoping India pulls out all the stops! Honestly, it will just

be lovely to spend my first Mother’s Day with her, she is just so special.

Tell us how your style has evolved since having India?

I would say that I try and have more of a capsule wardrobe now. I am really

lucky to have the help of a stylist who came over after India was born and

did a huge clear out for me and chucked so much away. She was ruthless

but it was really needed as I now just have a few key pieces that I mix

and match. I do tend to live in gym gear a lot at the moment too.

What is your everyday go-to outfit these days?

Jeans, jumper and trainers 100%. I try and add accessories like a nice

scarf or my favourite pom pom trainers, but I am a casual country girl

at heart. I just love being comfortable.

You’ve made a big effort to get fit – tell us about your weekly routine

I try and get to the gym at least three-four times a week. It sounds a

lot, but it’s around an hour a day. India comes with me and she is in

the creche at the gym and then we have fun afterwards. I work out not

just for my body, but for my mind and it definitely makes me a better

mum as I think so much clearer and straighter after a workout.

Tell us about your new project, The Mummy Tribe

I am just so excited about Mummy Tribe. When I had India, I had so many mums

that came to me to say they wanted to start working out and meeting fellow like-minded

mums but struggled. So Mummy Tribe was born. It's a three day retreat where mums

can come and work out, get pampered, meet people and learn new skills and better

ways of dealing with the daily stresses of being a mum. And this is all while your baby

is there being cared for by an amazing childcare team. I am so passionate about it.

How has having India changed your view of the world?

I guess it just puts everything into perspective. It sounds like a cliché, but nothing

else matters when she is around. She is my world and I adore her and becoming

a mum is the best thing that has ever happened to me.

Do you think it’s easier or harder having a baby now compared to in your mum’s day?

Oh wow, I don’t even know if you can compare the two. I think being a mum in

any era is tough. All I do know now is that I have a renewed respect for my mum

and what she did for me and my brother and sister, now that I am a mum and

I know how tough it actually can be at times.

What’s been the biggest surprise about having a baby?

I think other people and how judgemental they can be. I learnt to switch off early

on, but I feel for mums who perhaps don’t have as thick a skin as me. Other

women can be tough critics.

Any top tips for expectant mums out there?

Just go with it. I have been winging it now for eight months and you can take

advice, but you just have to follow your instincts and follow your baby as

every baby is totally different.
